Of the three types of muscles in the body, skeletal muscles are the most prevalent. Subject to the voluntary control of our nerves, they generate precise and contract movements and are connected to our bones by tendons, a type of dense connective tissue. By defying gravity, skeletal muscles also aid in maintaining an upright posture and aid in postural equilibrium. Although the skeletal muscles differ in size and shape, their organizational structure remains the same. A skeletal muscle with an epimysium surrounding it is made up of several fascicle bundles. Muscle fiber bundles may make form a muscle fascicle encircled by perimysium. Muscle fibers are separately enclosed by endomysium inside each fascicle. There are hundreds of thousands of myofibrils in every muscle fiber.
