When he was young he grew up in a more WASP-like community, and as an Italian-American, he was often challenged in a way but he eventually made a commissioner and a representative for affirmative action. His time in office overlapped with Donald Trump who changed common practices in American society by allowing people of different races to join the Mar-a-Lago club. This change created appreciation as well as opposition.
